Learn how Gatekeeper Press prepares and pitches your press release, and what happens after it is sent.
How can I help make my press release effective?
Complete the press release intake form with accurate details about you, your book, and the readers you hope to reach. Specific details help us find a compelling angle and identify relevant media contacts.
How does Gatekeeper Press choose who receives my press release?
We research media contacts whose work aligns with your book’s subject, genre, audience, or location. We review those contacts and build an outreach list for your release. The list will vary from book to book.
Who might receive my press release?
Depending on the story, we may pitch journalists, editors, podcasters, reviewers, bloggers, and other relevant media contacts. We focus on people whose audiences may be interested in your book.
How many media contacts can Gatekeeper Press reach?
Our media research tools include profiles for more than 1 million journalists, 50,000 media outlets, and 800,000 podcasts. We use that database to find contacts relevant to your book and build a tailored pitch list. The number of people who receive your press release depends on your book and the story we’re pitching.
What happens after my press release is pitched?
We monitor for media coverage and handle any inquiries sent to Gatekeeper Press. If a media outlet wants to pursue your story or needs information from you, we’ll contact you directly. Pitching a release does not guarantee that an outlet will publish a story.
When will I hear about media coverage?
We’ll contact you if we learn that an outlet has picked up your story or has an inquiry. We also plan to provide a coverage update about a month after pitching, allowing time for outlets to respond and stories to appear.
Can I be my own spokesperson?
Yes. If you choose to include your contact information in the press release, media outlets may contact you directly. You would be responsible for responding to those inquiries and can let your Author Manager know about any resulting coverage.
How can I provide a review copy of my book?
Contact your Author Manager if a reviewer requests a copy. They can help you identify the available options for your book.
Will my press release be sent to bookstores?
Our press release outreach is directed toward relevant media contacts. If you want to approach bookstores, you can use the copy of your release sent to you after it is pitched.
Where can I find my press release?
A copy will be attached to the email you receive when your press release has been pitched. You can save it for your records and use it in your own outreach.
Can I share my press release on social media?
Yes. You can share the copy sent to you, or post about your book and link readers to your website or a page where they can learn more.
